Bowling For Soup videos? How's that?

Many people asked me how I actually make these Bowling For Soup videos! To be serious, all I have to say is PAINT and WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER. But as nice as I am, I’m going to explain it!

Back in February 2006, I was sitting there, being bored. I was listening to Bowling For Soup. 1985 was over and the next song was RIDICULOUS. I have always liked art and drawing stuff. So I was playing around with PAINT. Then I heard the chorus of the song. Then I fall, then I fall down, we all fall down... I started to draw a mountain’s rock with a stickman falling down. I liked that picture! I saved the picture and closed PAINT. I opened WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER to play around with that program a bit! I imported some short funny video clips. I cut the clips and all that stuff. THEN I actually figured that it was possible to import and edit pics on WMM as well. Very good! I got back to the pic I drew right away. I imported it and also the song file. But I knew I had to make more pics so I started……… 4 hours later I actually had one pic for each line of the song matching to the lyrics perfectly. That is how the idea was born. As you might know, Ridiculous is a black ‘n white video (with a bit red only) so I was motivated to make another video… PICTURES HE DREW!! After my friend Stacey saw the videos she suggested to upload them. I did that and people actually liked them. I got a great feedback on ’em. So I made another video and another and another... it ended up being my favorite thing to do in my free time!

Though, the way I work has changed a lot. Same as my videos! I used to just sit down and start drawing the pictures. Now I take some more time! Like I first pick a song. Very carefully, reading the lyrics one or two times. Then I grab a pencil and a paper, and start making sketches of all the pics I will have to draw! Making up the ideas can be a pain, since in every song there is a line, or maybe two, where I think "not possible to draw". But doing a little brain storming, it works out! Finishing those sketches takes about 2-3 hours (and is not included in the amount of hours below)! The difficult part, when editing the pics to an actual movie, is the time! Sometimes, you have to fill 5 seconds ith 2 pictures or have 1 second for 5 pictures... so getting the perfect length for a single picture to be displayed can be hard and sometimes I even have to draw an extra picture or leave 1-3 out of the video! Having the pictures be in perfect harmony with the words is the most important thing, so it takes quite some time! But it is worth it!

It’s that funny. So next time you are bored, be creative!!! Be unique!
